In John's obituary, it states he came to Newport in 1848 and that Susan is "of Newport". At their marriage, the bride and groom state their residence as Newport and Pillgwenlly (the neighbouring town to Newport).

Susan has been found in the 1851 UK Census - a servant with Elliott family at 41 Commercial Street, Newport, Wales. Witnesses at wedding are living at same address.

John has not been found in the 1851 UK Census.
