Lyrics Added to Known Songs

Sometimes, you know, you find a song that's got some dandy lyrics - but just not enough dandy lyrics.

So, with apologies to the original lyric writers, I've added a few lines to the following songs.

My Additions are in green text.

Everybody's Talkin' (Echoes)

Original Lyrics by Harry Nilsson

Everybody's talkin' at me. I don't hear a word they're sayin',
Only the echoes of my mind.
People stoppin' starin' I can't see their faces,
Only the shadows of their eyes.

[Chorus]
I'm goin' where the sun keeps shinin' Thru the pourin' rain,
Goin' where the weather suits my clothes.
Bankin' off the northeast wind,
Sailin' on a summer breeze,
Skippin' over the ocean like a stone.

Streets are full of dead leaves Winter’s comin’ with the snow
Skies are dark with old gray clouds

All the birds are gone now, no singing in the trees
My footsteps echo from cold walls

No one knows what my name is, nobody says “hello”
Nobody calls me on the phone

People keep themselves busy, they’re lost in their own games
Running mazes in their minds

People starin’ at me, wondering who I am
All they see is a scarecrow in the wind

Everybody's talkin' at me. I don't hear a word they're sayin',
Only the echoes of my mind.

And I won't let you leave my love behind. Repeat and fade

Hickory Wind

A.k.a. "Hickory Winds". Original Lyrics by Gram Parsons and Bob Buchanon

In South Carolina there are many tall pines
I remember the oak tree that we use to climb
But it makes me feel better each time it begins
Calling me home Hickory Winds

I started out younger at most everything
All the riches and pleasures: what else could life bring
But now that I'm lonesome I always pretend
That I'm getting the feel of Hickory Winds

It's a hard way to find out that trouble is real
In a far away city with a far away  feel
But it makes me feel better each time it begins
Calling me home Hickory Winds

I walk empty streets full of people and cars
I spend the evenings at TV and bars
I’d sooner see stars through the tree limbs
Hearing the sound of Hickory Winds

Florida winds blow in from the sea
Speaking to others but never to me
The Greyhound is waiting; my journey begins
I’m heading home to my Hickory Winds.

Today

Original lyrics by leader Randy Sparks

[Chorus]
Today while the blossom still clings to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joys that are mine today

I'll be a dandy and I'll be a rover
You'll know who I am by the song that I sing
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover
I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing

I can't be contented with yesterday's glories
I can't live on promises winter to spring
This is my moment and now is my story
Who cares what tomorrow will bring

The roads and the highways rise up just ahead
The birds are singing, a traveller to greet
I’ll find out tomorrow where my footsteps have led
Who could ask for a treasure more sweet?

Tomorrow’s a butterfly still in cocoon
Awaiting the touch of a new morning’s sun
The past is a graveyard lit by the moon
It’s gone, it’s over, it’s done

The world like a banquet before me is spread
Laughing, I come to the tables I find
Taste while you can, before you are dead
Fleeing the cold chains that bind.
