TROLLING WEIGHT
'STACKER' SYSTEM! (RIGS)

Simple, EFFECTIVE, and CHEAP!    (also see below for trolling rudder system)

Why pay 'big bucks' for a downrigger and all the multitude of costly 'accessories'?  Of course, dowriggers, to give them theirTrollingweightstackingrigs proper 'due', are a precise method of trolling deeply - no question about it! But I'd look silly trolling/drifting around a local speckled trout lake of a hundred acres in size with a downrigger mounted on my canoe or car topper or small punt!  We've all seen the 'pros' on TV that to make their 'weekly' show, put a huge bass or other large boat into a small lake pond - that they'd be able to hardly turn around in!  It's time to get real! Of course, in the above scenario, the sponsors have paid big bucks - so you'll BUY their expensive stuff - but then there's the 'rest of us' - who just won't bite!
Trolling weight stackers  are seen here, to the right: - (left) Large 30 lb test pike/lrg walleye: (middle) 20 lb test medium  walleye/smallmouth; (right) 15 lb test slab crappie/deep 'gills/perch. Egg sinkers (NOT INCLUDED)  painted chartreuse - so they'll show up in pic better - and you can paint  your own egg sinkers, too - to use  as PART of the OVERALL fishing strategy - NOT JUST  as a weight device! Add as many weights as you need to, to get down as deep as you wish -without  costly downriggers or 'hard pulling' dipseys etc! - John!

Lets face it - we need to get our bait/lure down deep sometimes - and I've developed an inexpensive rig that'll let you do just that!  They're EASY to use - and YOU DETERMINE how much weight you put on 'em - and they're made to take lots!  You could easily put on four ounces of weight if you'd like - or an eighth of an ounce, depending on how big your bait/lure is, how fast you want to 'troll/drift, and how 'big' your line is, which 'all' does contribute to line/lure 'lift' to an extent.

When you purchase these rigs from me - you're getting 'CUSTOM PRO' stuff, simply not available in stores! Oh yes - there'll be the copy-cats as soon as I put 'em 'on line' - but that's life, I guess - but the reason I put such 'cheezy' pics on here - so it's at least a little tougher for the cut-throats to copy!  (Some items - it's just not worth it for me to put pics on-line - why should I train my competitors - or yours!?  I just won't do it - so on some of the 'stuff' with no pic - take to the bank - I'm not putting on the pic for a reason!!!  NOR WILL I SEND YOU A PIC - you'll just have to take my word for it - they work - and well - and if you want 'em - great - but if you feel slighted by this - sorry - just don't buy 'em - as mentioned before - during my semi retirement - I'm working for peanuts - so you guys can have top quality 'pro stuff' not on the open market - affordably! But you're not getting BLOOD outta me!!!PLEASE remember, fellas - I'm NOT a STORE as per se - I'm a 'pro' fisher and Outdoor Writer, amongst other things - and offer these items to you as a Writer/Pro - not as a 'store/tackle shop!

These  'weight stacker'  trolling rigs can be quickly snapped onto your line, then you either put on a lure/bait - or you can use a leader ( most fishers, including myself, do use a leader of about three to four feet) to get them away from the lure/bait; but in all honesty, they work well as PART of the whole fishing strategy and themselves will attract fish, to an extent, just as a flasher or trolling rudder ( see below for trolling rudder info)

IN ALL CASES, YOU SUPPLY YOUR OWN INEXPENSIVE WEIGHT, PURCHASED FROM YOUR 'LOCAL' TACKLE SHOP.  I supply you with only ONE ( example) egg or slip sinker ( included) - as it's simply FAR CHEAPER for YOU to purchase these egg or slip sinkers locally, than for me to send them to you through the mail!  Most tackle shops sell them as they are very common - and relatively inexpensive, even as compared to other sinkers.  I'd recommend you get a package of 1/8 ounce, one quarter ounce and one half ounce egg sinkers; this gives you, and there's just no end to your weight choice possibilities out on the water - and it's very unlikely you'd ever need more weight than this anyway!  If you need extra large weights for the large models, then get a pack of one half ounce, three quarters ounce and ounce eggs sinkers - and you'd be all set!

For mid summer lake trout that are deeper than deep, I'll use either one of these trolling rigs, then a trolling ruder, then a four foot leader and one of my 'quick change ( large) drifters ( just above) with 2 minnows on the last hook, be it a single or treble hook - and do well.  I've used one of these trolling rigs on my lead core line, too, to get down 'past deep'.  These 'rigs', even the heavy ones stacked up with weight, simply don't pull hard like dipsey divers or jet divers - and all for under ten bucks!  You can hardly even find 'release clips' for downriggers this cheap!  This virtually puts deeper fish as a viable option for ALL fishers, not just the lads that can afford the high priced equipment!

 Don't get me wrong here, fella's - I'm not poo-pooing the downrigger
- as a pro I used them to take thousands of fish - but now I'm semi retired -
I
want a more up front and personal - and cost effective method of fishing - and here it is!

They come in small, usually for smaller lures - where you want them down deep ( but you determine how deep, remember) such as for deep 'gills or suspended slabs or perch as a few examples.
The medium is the most used of these 'weight stacker' trolling devices and are primarily for mid sized lures when trolling/drifting for walleye and or smallmouth and mid sized pike as examples.
The large are mostly used for larger 'great lakes' fishing or for ultra deep application where you need to go very deep such as for lake trout .

TROLLING RUDDER 'SYSTEM'
( - scroll down, please, for pic)

These (trolling rudders only) have been around for 'eons', or so it seems - I remember seeing them in my Dad's tackle shop way back in the fifties!  But for some reason, likely because the ( expensive - it's all about money) 'industry driven' stuff, like downriggers - costing big bucks, replaced 'em!  But just wait a minute - Nope - these other far more expensive and complicated trolling methods didn't 'replace' trolling rudders, just 'obscured 'em!  The few bucks a trolling rudder system, as found here, is assuredly 'pale' in comparison to the hundreds/thousands of dollars you'd have to 'shell out' for a far more elaborate - and complicated system - to essentially - do the same thing - get that lure down to the fish - and catch 'em!  No question, though, the downrigger system is far more precise - but it should be - even a cheap system will cost hundreds ( or more) than a  simple trolling rudder system as developed by myself, and found here - and nowhere else, anywhere!
I particularly like them when needing to go deep after summer walleye or lake trout, they not only keep the lure running 'true', and vastly reduce the twisting up of crawler harnesses, but  also, and importantly, they are PART OF the LURING capabilities of your total lure presentation, getting the fish's attention.  The trolling rudder usually runs along a few feet, and just before  your lure/bait offering on your 'trailing' leader, which is run off the back of the trolling rudder system. Another great aspect is that you can add ONLY the weight you need to accomplish the depth you need to acquire - and the 'extra' weights you'll be using are simple cheap 'egg or slip sinkers' available at most ( even small town) tackle shops.  Not only that, you'd look kinda outta place using a downrigger on smaller inland lakes, and if the cannon ball fowls on a rock/tree stump, -  your boat/gear!!! - well, I'll let you fill in the blanks in regards to frustration, safety and dollars to get out of such a mess!
Because these are a 'smaller' ( trolling rudder) version ( if you'd like a larger version, email me with your concerns - if I hear from enough, I'll carry larger rudders, too - but only if there's 'call' - so I need to know). This is simply a wonderful 'new concept' taken a bit further than 'of old'  for crappie or 'deep' 'gill lures ( yes, such as the drifter series above) which can also be run off them, and these aren't so big as to spook 'em.  They're made of metal,  and thus, will become part of the total weight of the lure presentation you're running.  In most cases, except in extremely deep 'gills/crappie, and with such small lures used, you'll NOT likely need any extra weight such as the 'egg' sinkers mentioned.
Personally, ( for walleye/pike and smallmouth I use my 'trolling rod', loaded up with 14 lb fireline ( I like it 'cause it transmits nearly 100 % of ANY tap that occurs) and a snap swivel, attach whatever weight I need ( it simply snaps on the FRONT 'weight stacker' of the trolling rudder system) and I run a leader of standard mono ( whatever lb test I need for the fish) of from three ( as a minimum) to seven foot ( as a maximum) foot  leader, then the lure/bait presentation - and 'over she goes'!  Assuredly, these don't 'pull' as hard as some of the 'other' depth trolling systems on the market today, and I say this with NO DISRESPECT for the dipsey divers, pink ladys or jet divers out there - I use 'em too, on occasion - just that they pull hard - harder than what I really like!  These trolling rudder systems allow you to keep those other depth trolling systems for 'the occasional' or 'seldom' use, when you simply have to use 'em!

trollingrudderandweightstackerwireassemblies

These Trolling Rudder Systems come with one egg sinker assembled ( as you'll see, they simply slip on/off as you need/require, and you can stack 'em up so as to go real deep if need be) and in place so you see how it all 'goes' together, as an 'example' for you to follow!  You simply go to your local tackle shop and get a few more of the sizes you will need, far less expensive than sending them through the mail.
You also supply the trailer mono leader as this'll vary from fisher to fisher - you likely already have what you require - and it simply is tied to the snap swivel end of 'the system', then your lure/bait! Simple - cheap - effective - finally!

All of the weight stackers and trolling rudder systems come with instructions - to help you learn how to use this old but 'furthered' concept. From there, you'll go, and get down deeper, easily, simply - and affordably - without a lot of hard pull or expensive, complicated equipment!
