HOW TO MAKE SINGLE (IN LINE) PLANER BOARDS: - Pro Factsheet - John A. Vance, 2007/8. Copyrighted by John A. Vance 16 pages with over 8000 words with 12 diagrams and pictures These are smaller boards, and 'all the rage' because they're somewhat simpler to run, and you don't require a mast to use them. But you do need to know that they exert a lot of pull on your rod, and most people ( myself included) use an 8 to 9 foot rod with either a medium or stiff action - like what are used on downriggers - and a heavy duty level wind trolling reel. THIS FACTSHEET tells how to build these boards at a fraction the cost of just one such 'store bought' boards - and they run every bit as well! NOT ONLY THAT, but because this is a 'pro' factsheet, I give you ENOUGH basic info so you can scale up/down the dimensions so you could just as easily build yourself a set of 'MINI' boards for smaller lakes or 'gill/crappie' sized fishing - or larger for great lakes style fishing. Now, you can not run as big of gear as you could on the big double boards as above, but that's simply because these simply have less material on which the whole PB concept(s) use to function. You can purchase this factsheet - and make a set of two - or more - as many as you like - for less than just one store bought board. I tell you where to get material locally and I supply the few items that are hard to find. Several 'running' options are available, and I personally prefer to use a 'stopper' clip and reel the board in to the stopper clip and take the board off so as to finish playing the fish totally unencumbered with the board. I sell the only commercially available 'stopper' clip ( see above) - and also the 'economy' stopper, which is EVERY BIT AS GOOD - EVEN BETTER in many ways - and easily made at home, once you see how they're made. You can purchase this factsheet alone or you can purchase a kit which includes everything except the floatant ( I tell you where and what to use) as the wood, also available locally, much cheaper than I could ever supply and then send it to you. If, after seeing the kit, if you cannot find any of the items locally, you can re-order just the pieces you need, inexpensively. Most people fishing walleye/crappie etc. will want to have several boards for EACH side of the boat. (Note:to those who'll make these units for re-sale) In my 'How to Make Release & Stopper clips, I explain how to the clips needed for these and the bigger two boarded boards..I'm aware that many 'crafty' types will also make/sell these and the 'stuff' above at craft sales and the like. If you need 'bulk' product, I can also supply at reasonable prices, particularly the smaller hard to find items - as well as the pro factsheets on how to set up and operate these and the larger boards. For these specialty applications, email me and we'll dialogue on your needs. NOTE: IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR NEED MORE INFO ON THESE KITS, EMAIL ME! That's what I'm here for! In ALL of these factsheets, I tell you that I'm here as a 'resource' person for any snags/troubleshooting you may encounter - and this is an 'added value' no extra charge service! Only $13.99 US! plus $8.00 shipping/handling flat rate on any number of Pro Factsheets! HOW TO MAKE DOUBLE BOARDED
PLANER BOARDS: - Pro Factsheet -
16 pages with over 8000 words and 9 diagrams and pictures Here it is at long last, folks. Now you can make your own planer boards to nearly and size you like at a fraction of the cost of just one 'store bought' board - including the cost of this factsheet! This set of complete instructions tells you how to make them, and you don't need a lot of tools to do so. If you have a chop saw, or a radial arm saw - even a miter box and saw ( like used to make picture frames etc) you should be able to do a good job of making a set of boards better than any you'd buy! This write up includes pictures, diagrams and sketches AND YOU ARE INVITED TO CONTACT ME IF YOU NEED MORE DISCUSSION on anything contained there on the factsheet if you are unclear! This is a 15 page document and is almost 8000 words in length - so you know that I go into great detail - and give you the important need to know reasoning behind what we do - so you can come up with even more boards of nearly any size you like. This is the type of double boarded planer boards that most pro CHARTER BOAT CAPTAINS/fishers use. If you run a lot of lines or if you need larger boards because of running a number of hard pulling deep diving applicances, there are the boards that will work best for you. If you were to make and sell these boards they'd EACH bring OVER $50.00 for JUST one, and the pair including both the port/starbaod boards would cost easily a hundred dollars a pair, and without any cord/attachment hardware!. These are similar to what I use most of the time. They are superb for hunting out walleye, especially, and can be 'geared up' or down for your lake size. I recomend you read the Pro Factsheet over a couple times to grasp the full directions before starting this project. If you have all the materials at hand, you can easily buid a set of two, double boarded planer boards in less than four hours, and MUCH less after you've made your first set an know what you're doing. There is a great discussion on the best wood to use etc. Most of the lumber and other items are easily obtained at your local hardware store or lumber yard. I can also supply the relatively hard to get items for you, and you can purchase these below, as 'sets' or indicidually as you need them! Only $13.99 US! plus $8.00 shipping/handling flat rate on any number of Pro Factsheets! HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE, INEXPENSIVE AND EXTREMELY FUNCTIONAL MAST SET UP FOR PLANER BOARDS: - Pro Factsheet - USED ON ALUMINUM BOATS, PRIMARILY John A. Vance, 2007/8. Copyrighted by John A. Vance 17 pages with over 9000 words, and 32 diagrams and pictures This factsheet is GREAT for ANYONE who wants to inexpensively rig up a fully functional solid mast for their aluminum boat. Commercial masts cost a bundle - over $300.00 at the time of this writing. YOU CAN MAKE THIS MAST and instal it on your boat for well UNDER $20.00 BUCKS, including the cost of this factsheet! And it works great! I use the KISS principle ( Keep It Simple, Stupid). You can EITHER drill a few holes, or if you prefer, you can use 'C' clamps and not drill any holes in your boat - as YOU decide! You will need a few tools; a rasp, hammer, (hand)saw, a few nuts/bolts and pliers/wrenches, and you can EASILY make this mast set up in less than an hour. Not only that, it when made as I describe, it can be taken down and dissembled (or re-assembled on your boat) in LESS THAN ten minutes, closer to five min. It IS NOT COMPLICATED - and it works well! It isn't nearly as complicated as the commercial contraptions! There are 16 pages in all - and oodles of descriptions and diagrams and lots of pictures showing you how to build it! ALL the parts needed are EASILY obtained from most hardware and lumber stores - even small ones! There is enough discussion in this factsheet to enable folks without an aluminum boat, with a bit of ingenuity, to be able to build a similar mast set up for other boats such as fiberglass. If you've purchased the above planer board instructions, you'll be wise to purchase this factsheet as well if you need a mast for your boat! Only $13.99 US! plus $8.00 shipping/handling flat rate on any number of Pro Factsheets! HOW TO MAKE RELEASE AND STOPPER CLIPS FOR PLANER BOARDS AND DOWNRIGGING: - Pro Factsheet - John A. Vance, 2007/8. Copyrighted by John A. Vance 12 pages with over 6000 words and 17 diagrams and pictures (no pic - I'm not training
my competitors - or yours!)
This Pro factsheet will save you big bucks over time. As you know
release
clips cost a bundle, and most of the directions found for free on 'the
net'
are poor at best. I discuss here how to make BOTH release clips AND
Stopper
clips inexpensively, yet with GREAT functioning clips that equal or
better
the commercial 'store bought' versions. I also give you enough
background/concept
so you can vary clips to suit your individual needs and so you can have
EITHER
hard releasing clips, medium or light release clips - all from
materials
you can find locally in your town. If you want the higher quality clips
that I can offer (affordably and at reasonable cost),
then I also make them available for sale if you can only find
inferior
quality clips locally. I also tell you what material to use for pads,
why,
and how to vary/modify it for various uses/application. I sell BOTH
rubber
padding for round AND square gripper pads - or you can make your own -
all
is told/explained! These are easy and inexpensive to make, and like
MOST
of my instructions, made simple and with adequate dialogue - and added
value
to be here for ya - if you need me to trouble shoot etc. As with
most of
the
HOW TO projects found at my page, you don't need a lot of expensive or
sophisticated
equipment - most already have the simple tools required.Only $13.99 US! plus $8.00 shipping/handling flat rate on any number of Pro Factsheets! 5

PLANER BOARD HARDWARE ONLY the
hard to get items are
included here -
all the rest you can purchase locally at most hardware stores and/or lumber yards! PLANER BOARD CORD ORANGE Plastic so it shows up and easier to see!( close to 500lb test) This is the very type that I use on my boards that attaches the boards to the mast or clip set up on your boat. This is a very heavy line that is pliable enough to suit and allows the release clips to run down the line and to the planer board arm where they are out of the way. This reason alone, in my estimation, makes this line (far) BETTER than the dacron planer board cord offered elsewhere by other companies. This line LOOKS VERY MUCH LIKE weed eater line, BUT ISN'T, although, likely a close 'relative' in regards to 'plastics' etc. Each spool is 150 ft long, and adequate for a set of two planer boards( if cut in half and each board would then have enough line for 75 feet) and will last for years. Complete directions included as are six special crimp clips for the ends ( in case you 'botch' a couple while attaching it, or for re-attaching due to some 'other' reason - and very handy to have.) Only $13.99 US! plus $8.00 shipping/handling for 150ft of planer board line and six attachment crimp clips - and complete directions! SPECIALTY ATTACHING HARDWARE All of these items are what I
use, and are what I'd regard as 'hard to get'
- in fact, the time you'll save just running around trying to locate it will drive you nuts - and makes this a very good offer. FOUR LARGE COASTLOCK SNAP SWIVELS Used on the end of the planer board cord that will attach to the split rings on the planer board attachment arm. These are strong and AMERICAN MADE and simply the best and most reliable you can use - planer boards can exert a LOT of pull and you NEED a VERY STRONG ( 190 lb test, according to the US manufacturer) and positive snap swivel - and these are them! I prefer to have this snap rated at 190 lb., and the cord at the 500lb test, this way, if in rough seas or if you inadvertently snag something such as a buoy, at least the snap is going to fatigue and you aren't as likely to do as much damage to the boat/mast, etc.). These are still small enough to allow the clip holding your release clips to run over and thus onto the planer board arm and out of the way of subsequent released clips. This is especially invaluable during a hot bite or when there's chop on the water and you have a number of releases to deal with. (Note: I put these onto the ends of the planer board cord BEFORE crimping them closed - make a good clean and professional job this way!) Pic at right shows the coastlock snaps already attached to the P.B. cord as mentioned above! You simply put them on before crimping clips! AND FOUR LARGE SPLIT RINGS These go onto the planer board attachment arm, to which the P.B. cord SNAP SWIVEL (coastlock, above) is attached. These are large enough for the strength aspects, yet small enough to allow most release clips to go over and ride next to the planer board after a release. While you could snap the coastlock snap directly to the attachment arm, these make it a LOT EASIER and I regard them personally as a MUST! FOUR COASTLOCK SNAPS and FOUR SPLIT RINGS ONLY $9.99 US! plus $8.00 shipping/handling COMMERCIALLY MADE 'STOPPER' CLIP - PLASTIC There are VERY few commercially made 'stopper' clips out there. These can be used to put on and hold the single line pb's ( even store bought one's of most manufactures) as a stopper clip. This, like my 'economy' clip's work well, and so they should for the cost of them! In most cases my economy stopper clip can be modified for almost any application these can be used for - and either purchased for far less $$ - and easily made at home! ( I explain how in my pro factsheet dealing with release/stopper clips) Some people will use these as a DEEP DOWN weight attachment rig, and can be adapted thus by using a large split ring to attach a lead weight. The economy clip can too, with simple modification! These are simple to use, and are made of tough plastic in the US! ONE commercially made(US) Plastic STOPPER clip ONLY $7.99 US! plus $8.00 shipping/handling ECONOMY STOPPER CLIP (no pic, I'm NOT gonna train my competitors - or yours! ALL of the items at this web site are NOT available on the mass market and are cutting edge items - the difference between me and other cutting edge pro fishers is that I haven't 'sold out' to big business) These I make myself, and I explain how to make them with other pertinent discussion on my factsheet. These can be made almost any size and modified for a number of applications. They're so simple to use/make, you can easily make them yourself as soon as you see one! If you need a lot of them, or wish to include them with boards you're gonna make/sell, then I urge you to get the factsheet - the ONLY reason they're as expensive here as they are is because it takes me 'time' to make them, and I'm making peanuts for my time with MOST of the items at this page - it's a semi retirement project - not a 'bottom line' venture! I'd much rather you made your own, if you wish to know the truth! ONLY $3.99 US ea. clip plus $8.00 shipping/handling 6 Economy Stopper Clips ONLY $18.99 US! plus $8.00 shipping/handling 5

you to get a set of these large crimp pliers - it does a great and
professional
looking job.
