I had the pleasure of having Jan Earnshaw-Kelly and Jack Barnes perform in my classroom last month. It was a delightful experience for the students and the teachers. Jan and Jack arrived dressed in Medieval garb. As we listened to their cleverly worded dialogue, we learned that they were time travellers from the Middle Ages who had lost their way, and now found themselves in our time period. Through their astonishment and confusion over some of the everyday items in our classroom, they brought many of the differences in knowledge and life style alive for the children in a humourous and unique manner. The musical performance was completely entertaining. "Lady Jan" and "Lord Jack" played pieces from the Medieval time period. The children were in awe while they listened to the harp, recorder, drums, and many other percussion instruments. The children were all encouraged to participate through playing an instrument, answering questions, keeping the beat or rhythm, and/or performing a dance which Jan and Jack taught to them. The educational value was apparent when the students, who enjoyed the role of playing host to the time travellers, volunteered their help to point out some of the differences between how things are now, and how they were during the Middle Ages. Jan and Jack were completely at ease with the children and answered their many questions. They were very well prepared and very knowledgeable about the time period. They certainly made learning fun! I am very happy to recommend this program to anyone who is interested in an exciting, magical experience. One of the students offered his ultimate compliment of praise. He said that enjoying the entertainment was a lot better than watching TV! Brenda Fuerth, School Administrator. |
