Here are photos from the C.V.M.G. display at the London motorcycle show, Saturday February 9, 2008.
A great thank you has to go to Ray Mallinson and Bill Coulson for the
effort they made on our behalf and the quality of bikes they were able
to procure. We went all the way from a big Harley Davidson to small
Honda 90 Trail bike, with lots of British and Oriental machines in
between. The vintage aspect was great as we had two very old and very rare
bikes entered by Peter Emmans. One was a 1903 Kerry found stuffed in a
hedge. It was rebuilt by Peter’s dad and was one of the 15 original bikes
in the London to Brighton Run in 1934.
The second bike, also owned by Peter, was a 1905 Riley, the only one
in existence today. It was used for 19 years as a farmer’s delivery
vehicle and was retired in 1926. It was found as a derelict by Peter’s dad
and restored for the 1950 London to Brighton Run. Sometime later a
wicker sidecar was installed.
Another interesting bike with a story is the 1956 Jawa belonging to
Bruce Greenius. His daughter was living in Czechoslovakia. One Year, for
Christmas, she sent him a key and the next year, he got the Jawa. It
has since been restored to it’s very nice condition.
