TENNESSEE
WILLIAMS'
Before he became Tennessee Williams, Tom Williams was haunted by memories. He forged them into The Glass Menagerie, his most personal drama and his first masterpiece.
Williams' play is the still-resonant study of a mother's desperate
struggle with the forces of fate against the process of a growing
dysfunctionality among her two grown children. The themes of familial love,
shattered hopes, frustration to the point of rage, entrapment and ultimate
guilt are all churning with powerful force beneath this beautifully crafted
work, made curiously lyrical with a few long and memorable speeches and
the thread of the son's sardonic yet poetic narrative.
