BIG
BAD WOLF PINOCCHIO
Matt Cassidy Darin
Welch
Since
it first opened, Godspell has remained an immensely successful rock opera,
which
broke new ground in its stage treatment of Jesus Christ. It is based
on the
Gospel
according to Matthew, with a satirical and comic bent. Told in a
compelling,
contemporary
style, Godspell is filled with joyous and popular music, including the
songs
"Prepare Ye The Way of The Lord," and "Day by Day."
In this production of Godspell, Jesus is portrayed by THE PIED PIPER OF HAMELIN (SeanJones), a personality who had a special rapport with children. In fact, the original ten clowns of Godspell appear as characters from the rhymes and stories of childhood. A group of school children come upon these unusual visitors in their school playground at lunchtime. During lunchtime and then again after school they are taught a lesson by THE MAD HATTER (Martin Apps), sing "Day by Day" with SNOW WHITE(Jessica Sage) and are encouraged to be lights of the world by HUMPTY DUMPTY (Edmund Fong).
THE QUEEN OF HEARTS (LeeAnn Redden) sings about God's loving kindness, RAGGEDY ANN (Jillynn Buchan) shares a duet with the Hatter and PINOCCHIO(Darin Welch) comes to life before their eyes. MOTHER GOOSE(Sherry Garner), as the true Mother Earth figure, gives thanks for the gifts of the season while LITTLE BO PEEP(Julie Roach) offers temptation.
The stories are told and acted by the children in song, games, magic, dance, pantomime and play. The festivities of life and love are tempered, however, by the challenge and betrayal of Judas who appears here as THE BIG BAD WOLF (Matthew Cassidy).
