1a) Body flattened, posterior half usually much wider than tapering anterior end. Mouth a small
pore on rim or within anterior sucker cavity from which a proboscis can protrude. Generally 1
pair of eyes; sometimes with additional 1, 2, or 3 pairs behind first pair. Whitish warts may be
present on dorsal surface. Young leeches may be attached to ventral surface.
