Memories

The ghost of your memory haunts me,
Torments me and tears me apart;
And although you are gone from my presence
You pervade every depth of my heart.

Though the days of the past must be set aside
And dreams of tomorrow prevail,
Still today holds your love deep inside me...
To forget you is to no avail.

For the past holds the key to the future,
And today is a step from the past,
And each moment we live and each feeling we give
Is delightful...a special repast.

So you come to my meal of the moment,
Fill my soul till the hunger is gone,
Then you fade to the recesses of my mind
But I know that you won't tarry long.

For I know we are bound by a power
That is stronger than living itself.
And the strength of our love while it lasted
Was a melding of self with self.

So come linger, my long gone lover.
Come to visit me every day
While I wander the paths of the living
And you float through the heavens away
