IMMIGRANTS
How many people do you know
Who, born in other lands,
Have had to start a whole new life
And rupture family bands?
It's hard to leave behind the lives
They've known to start anew
In country foreign to their own
Where friends and kin are few.
Yet often they must make the break,
Go on, and leave behind
Loved ones who care and won't be there
As their new dreams they find.
They've brought into our country
More than many people see.
They share a wealth of knowledge
And they're grateful to be free.
They're very special people
To contribute such a fee
And the melding of their cultures
Is a part of history.
