My Friend

When feeling down and out one day
I humbly bowed and knelt to pray
I poured out all my tales of woe
On One I knew who'd never go

And as I spoke in rev'rent tones
A calmness settled in my bones
The strength I'd sought to carry on
Came swiftly. All my doubts were gone.

And so, before I stood again,
I thanked my Friend, the Man of men,
For helping me, to let me know
That He'd be near where'er I go,

My Friend can be your best friend too!
When you need Him, He'll stand by you,
He cares about your every need...
In His compassion did he bleed.

And if we sometimes fail to see
His love, still He will always be
There when we once more ask Him in,
With open arms He'll pardon sin.

It's very sad I must confess
That when we are not under stress
We turn our thoughts to ways of men...
Take Him forgranted once again.

But He is patient... always there
To share our joy, to case despair,
For He knows well the trials we face,
He understands the human race.
