MY CHILD

From the seed of love you grew to be
In a very special part of me, my child
From a precious bit of your dad and me
You developed into a whole new you, mychild

Protected, and nourished, and sheltered, you grew
Till the time had come to emerge
And you made your entrance into the world
With a forceful, billowy surge

You were perfect...and oh, so lovely
As I held you to my breast
And your tiny fists were clenched so tight
When I laid you down to rest

You were helpless and so dependant
On your mom and dad, and yet
Even then you were a person
Not a chattel to forget

For you would somehow let us know
When your tummy ached or you were wet
Or you simply wanted cuddling
Though you didn't often fret

You were such an active toddler
Always wanting to explore
And when you discovered one thing new
You would always search for more

Then, dependance waned as your body grew
And your mind developed too
For you learned that you were not an it
You were someone...You were you

As you gleaned from life's experiences
All the things you chose to save
You developed into someone good
You no longer just took, but gave

And then you reached that stage, my child
You were still not quite adult
I was seeing you from a different view
And at times it was difficult

But you have make out fine, I know
And I'm very proud of you
So just be tough when the going gets rough
I am sure you will make it through

From the seed of love you began your life
With the love of life you have grown
You are now adult, but you're still my child
And you've been love's seed well sown.
