ACCEPTANCE
With trembling hands she wrote the words
Upon a tear-stained page
Her love, her hopes, her agony
Poured forth with heady rage
Her anguish came from knowing
That their love could never be
Though tears were copiously flowing
Her heart would not be free
And though emotion gripped her soul
And rent her life with pain
She knew she had to carry on
Not languish, or complain
For one wild fling, she could not explain
Love tossed her to and fro
Though logic told her, "It's not good,"
Her heart would not let go
Even now in her mind she can see his face
And feel that special glow
That nothing else will ever replace
That she must never show
So she wrote the long loveletter
To express her inmost thoughts
But she knew she'd never mail it
Or her dreams would also be lost
For she looks at the realities
That put her to the test
Then she counts her many blessings
For she knows, at last, what's best
She sees her dreams as a fleeting escape
From the problems of today
But the joy, the love, the happiness shared
Push the fantasies away
And in the end, when she needs a friend
The dream will not be there
But the gentle man who had taken her hand
Will be by her side to care
