proposed AMENDMENT No 3
NOTES - At the First International COOK Reunion (1989), agreement was obtained to hold the American Reunions on odd numbered years and Canadian Reunions on even numbered years. This would permit an International Reunion to be held every 3rd year - alternating between America and Canada; this has met with limited success.
Our local discussions conclude that this may be too short an interval. It is difficult, if not (often) impossible to obtain interested cousins to chair these events. Consequently, the willing workers get overworked and soon they have lost interest -- in the long term, the process appears to be quite detrimental to the continued success of the many ACGS activities.
If this interval was extended to 5 years, each of the groups (USA/CAN) would have 10 years to prepare for a major event. Perhaps this may even prove to be too frequent - however, experience will provide that direction. At least, one might consider how much better our extended family affairs would be, if there had been 20 (well attended) International Gatherings over the last decade.
We have made a great deal of progress over the last two decades or so towards improved family communications and understanding. There would appear to be a great danger now of the enthusiasm of the few harming the whole. A timely decision is warranted to permit all of us to nurture and improve the goodwill obtained to this juncture.
PROPOSAL:- That the interval between International COOK Reunions be 5 years (vs 3).
Note:- If this amendment is approved, Article 5.02 (a) will also be amended to read "ie every fifth year" vs " ie every third year"
Note:- The Board has approved this - it is now Atabled at the next International Reunion General Meeting, for ratification.@
Note:- This should have no impact on local reunions, except from a coordinating perspective for the International Reunions.
