CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT PROPOSAL

proposed AMENDMENT No 3

NOTES - At the First International COOK Reunion (1989), agreement was obtained to hold the American Reunions on odd numbered years and Canadian Reunions on even numbered years. This would permit an International Reunion to be held every 3rd year - alternating between America and Canada; this has met with limited success.

Our local discussions conclude that this may be too short an interval. It is difficult, if not (often) impossible to obtain interested cousins to chair these events. Consequently, the willing workers get overworked and soon they have lost interest -- in the long term, the process appears to be quite detrimental to the continued success of the many ACGS activities.

If this interval was extended to 5 years, each of the groups (USA/CAN) would have 10 years to prepare for a major event. Perhaps this may even prove to be too frequent - however, experience will provide that direction. At least, one might consider how much better our extended family affairs would be, if there had been 20 (well attended) International Gatherings over the last decade.

We have made a great deal of progress over the last two decades or so towards improved family communications and understanding. There would appear to be a great danger now of the enthusiasm of the few harming the whole. A timely decision is warranted to permit all of us to nurture and improve the goodwill obtained to this juncture.

PROPOSAL:-

That the interval between International COOK Reunions be 5 years (vs 3).

Note:- If this amendment is approved, Article 5.02 (a) will also be amended

to read "ie every fifth year" vs " ie every third year"

Note:- The Board has approved this - it is now Atabled at the next International Reunion General Meeting, for ratification.@

Note:-

This should have no impact on local reunions, except from a coordinating perspective for the International Reunions.

I AGREE with this proposal _______ Comment __________________

I DO NOT AGREE with this proposal ________ Comment ________________

Proposed mailer schedule
- return this vote by 15 May
- this mailer to accompany the 1999 ACGS Newsletter:
                    anticipate mailing mid Aug
--- returns from this survey by Oct 99
-- based on these results, a mail vote of the Board Members in Nov 99 weather to
                proceed with our planned MILLENNIUM REUNION.

=====================================================

Based on our experience, we (the local group) recommend this survey to provide a basis for a reasoned Board decision; before we make the final committment to this project. Perhaps we can also get some feedback at the 1999 COOK FAMILY REUNION - USA , this summer. However, it takes awhile to get 500 or so Newsletters and mailers prepared, so we would appreciate the vote return by 15 May so we can begin this work.

Thank you,

cousin Kathy (199) - your ACGS President

=======================================================

July 24, 1997

This is only a suggestion - a dream - a possibility. The early input (comments) of each Board & Executive member of the Society is of the utmost importance - and the feedback each of you can obtain from your contacts. This will permit some modifications and the delineation of a more detailed plan, let's say by the end of September 1997 - could you please provide your comments by then??

Having this accomplished by October, we can then prepare a good motivational mailer for our Annual Newsletter - December of 1997 - leaving us two more mailers (Dec 1998 & 1999) to inspire COOK Cousins to a good attendance. We can also begin to establish some milestones to arrive at our destination in the best possible condition.

We look for someone to volunteer to CHAIR THIS EVENT (or at least act as an MC) -- will it be YOU???

We also need the help of every one of you and anyone else you can encourage to help to spread the word of the importance of this event -- it will not happen again for another 1000 years. WHAT KIND OF HERITAGE will we leave our descendants? Will it be richer for them because we have passed this way??? Will they know what we looked like, what we sounded like, what kind of person we were, what our accomplishments were??? This is the expressed purpose of the ANDREW COOK GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY Inc. #820632 - to support and maintain the works today which will legally (and properly) retain these remembrances in perpetuity; of these works, our COOK REUNIONS are a major element. We need to encourage both young and old to honour and respect the larger COOK FAMILY --- these reunions play a very significant part in this regard --- especially if we can make this a BIG ONE.

As Dr. Robert H. Schuller has said, "IF IT's GOING TO BE --- IT's UP TO ME" and I will add --- "and YOU as ME --- and ME as YOU". Together, there is nothing we COOKs cannot do!!!

RN199 Kathy Cook, President
