FAMILY REUNION
BIRDSALL - MELICK - CANBY - DARLING
Saturday, September 17, 2005
St. Johns Valley Centre - Fonthill, Ontario
Having walked home from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Samuel
Birdsall arrived at the home of his mother, Elizabeth Melick Birdsall Darling,
and his step-father, John Darling, on the 9th day of July 1804. Samuel’s diary
has the entry “I spent the summer with them, kept school during the winter and
part of the summer. . .”
You are invited to help us celebrate the 200th anniversary of
that first school year as we hold the 2005 Birdsall family reunion at the site
of the school house where Samuel Birdsall first taught in 1804.
We plan to “meet and greet” around 1:00 p.m. at the St. Johns Valley Centre
where the school and original mill, built by John Darling, are located. There
will be a variety of genealogical information as well as photos on display in
the mill basement. You are welcome to bring any photos or genealogical
information you may have and add it to the display for others to view.
At 2:00 p.m., we will enter the school for a dedication of a photo and story of
Samuel Birdsall, the school’s first teacher.
Following the dedication, afternoon tea will be served on the beautiful grounds
of St. Johns Valley Centre, through which meanders the Twelve Mile Creek.
At 5:00 p.m., we will make our way to The Wildflower Restaurant for dinner and
more time to socialize. We will make a reservation for all those who would like
to join us for dinner, but rather than collecting from everyone and paying as a
group, all guests will be responsible for their own bill. Genealogical
information will be taken to the restaurant for further perusal.
Please contact us at the address below and advise the following:
Names of all attendees
Address
Number of people joining us for dinner
Menu choices (if you are joining us for dinner)
The menu choices are: Salmon ($30) Chicken ($30) Beef
Tenderloin ($37) Vegitarian ($30)
(These menu prices do not include taxes and gratuities.)
Please see the link below for all directions and a map
There is no fee for the afternoon event at St. Johns but a
donation of $5 from each family would be appreciated to cover our costs.
