Overview of Our ServicesHow services are offeredWhenever possible we try to provide services in the home or environment where the individual is most comfortable or where they are experiencing difficulties. Our involvement is dictated by the needs of the individual, family or organization. We conduct a wide range of assessments, group, individual and family counselling, individual or group therapy, and mediator training. We offer to our community partners a broad range of seminars for groups of three to three hundred. Adults With an Intellectual or Developmental DisabilityWe provide a wide range of support services for adults with an intellectual or developmental disability, including individuals with a dual diagnosis. Aging and DementiaThe area serving individuals with a developmental disability is an ever growing one. RSA has participated in a joint research project with Surrey Place Centre to develop a baseline testing tool for dementia in down syndrome. In addition to our workshops in this area we provide direct services to who are specifically referred for problems in this area. Family ServicesRegional Support Associates provides family therapy and family-system mediation services, along with consultations to service providers for improving methods of supporting families experiencing stress. Couple and relationship counselling is also available for individuals with developmental disabilities. By offering these services, we try to 1) strengthen family relationships and coping skills, 2) improve parenting and sibling support, and 3) promote positive family collaboration with service providers. Training and EducationTopics of workshops range from understanding and dealing with difficult behaviour, stess management, disclosure of abuse, medications and health, to autism. The focus of workshops are to increase the basic skill sets of frontline staff and to play a preventative role in the early recognition and intervention with a range of problems. This effort to increase community capacity provides a bridge between theory and practical application in the field. Healthy Sexuality - Abuse Prevention and ResponseRegional Support Associates provide services mainly to adults with a developmental disabiltiy. As adults, the persons we support have rights and responsibilities with respect to their sexuality. RSA strives to provide timely response in situations of disclosed sexual abuse. To those who have experienced abuse, we provide support to individuals and/or groups. These supports may include counselling, education, liason to other service providers, assistance and supports to families, friends and care givers. Bereavement ServicesIncreasingly RSA is receiving referrals for individuals displaying problem behaviour. Upon further exploration, grieving surfaces as a root of the problems the individuals are having. Regional Support Associates offers specialized services to individuals and to agency staff to assist in dealing with and supporting those who are dealing with loss. Justice Dual DiagnosisThe Justice Dual Diagnosis Case Managers provide services to adults that are 18 years of age and older.
