the madonna series | |||||||||
| this series was inspired by a studio-mate, and a cache of 'automobile madonnas' that i lucked into one day. i've long been fascinated by the south-american catholic and european catholic practice of roadside shrines to madonnas. so i started putting madonnas in all sorts of weird little shrines. it started withthe bone madonna and went from there until i didn't have any left. i'm sure i could have kept going forever. the fun part about all of these pieces, is that the small cylinders hanging off the strings at the bottom of each piece contain 'prayers' to each madonna, much like the japanese practice of writing prayers to their gods at the shrines. | ||||||||||
