Well since we are celebrating our thirty-fifth anniversary late this year we decided to celebrate it at Coyuca 22 and let me tell you we were not disappointed at all. By the way our anniversary is in July!

Getting there is interesting, I will use the word rustic, a word one uses to describe unusual and interesting objects or places. Remember that Coyuca 22 is on a hill overlooking the bay of Acapulco and some of the streets are indeed on a steep uphill angle. If these hills were back in Canada or northern United States and just the least bid of snow there would be no way of getting up that hill without a snowplow and two sanders ahead of you. So why do I use the work rustic… well it is a good way to describe the roads that are full of potholes, cracks and washed out areas, but then this is Acapulco and Mexico so we have to use the rustic as that is their way of life for many years.

But once you get up to the top and they open the rod iron gates, your eyes open wide and your chin drops as you cannot believe the ambiance of the restaurant and then you get the view of Acapulco… now you know you are in paradise… of course you also know that this place is going to cost you money… the waiters and staff greet you with open arms and wait on you hand and foot. The menu does have a variety of different meals starting at about $180.00 pesos for chicken; however this was our anniversary dinner so I treated my wife to Surf-N-Turf at only $495.00 pesos. I had the steak for just over $325.00 pesos and added French Onion soup to it for another $95.00 pesos.

The French Onion soup was just wonderful and almost as good as the one I had in Québec City served at a French restaurant, so I you like French onion soup try it you will love it. Our meals were just to our liking, tender and well prepared. My wife Jane to my surprise let me taste her lobster and it was as good as one would expect. Then Jane finished her meal with black tea, I however opted of the sexy coffee. Sexy coffee is made with Fine Cognac, Licor de Naranjas (orange Liqueur) and Damia or something that came in a sexy bottle. The glass is coated with sugar and then flamed over and open fire and finally the liqueurs are added and also flamed and finally coffee added and topped with ice cream, all I can say is “outstanding”! I was trying to get free seconds but no such luck, hehehe.

At the end Graciela, one of the owners and partners came and told us all about the thirty-five year restaurant and that it is open from November till the end of April, as of course during the tourist season. And since it is an open-air restaurant it stands to reason that they would not be open during the rainy season. Now meeting Graciela and seeing her cheerful attitude was just a great way to finish the evening, of course the fact that she was a very attractive lady with the unsurpassed smile added to the attraction as well.

So next time you go to Acapulco be sure to try this Acapulco jewel and have a meal at Coyuca 22. Coyuca 22 is located in Av. Coyuca 22 if you would not have guest that, but if I were you I would hire a cap to take you there. Jane and I did not make a reservation; we waited until a cruise ship was in town and just went up there. The cruise ship was just and added touch to the beauty of the city as the sun set and the lights came on one by one. And since we went during the week or on a Thursday night it was no problem to get a seat. Also the restaurant does not open until 7:00 pm but we went there about 6:30 hoping that we could get in and take some pictures before it was dark and sure enough they open the gates and let in and enjoy the place. We were the first ones there but it was not long before others came and did the same thing we did… take pictures.
