Scope Training:
Learn how to properly read a waveform monitor & vectorscope,
so your productions comply with broadcast standards and so
you can gauge luminance & chroma levels for best picture
quality. Scopes are to video like a light meter is to photography.
Teaching Field Production Values:
Learn proper on-location lighting, how to get good audio
under less than ideal conditions, how to get the best results
from your camera, or simply how to get the best possible quality
from whatever equipment you do have. Learn how to plan and
take just the right equipment with you into the field so you
don’t haul around more weight than necessary.
Good Post Production Audio:
Learn various methods to increase the quality of your audio
for video in post production, either via proper use of an
audio mixer, proper audio connections/routing/impedance, audio
software programs like Sound Forge or through timeline audio
editing techniques for the best blend of ambience, sound effects,
narration & music.
Purchse Advisor:
Do you need advice on which equipment or software you need
for you post-productions suite? Although I am not a dealer,
I can help you make this tough early decision so that you
can avoid the headaches later. I can be your consultant on
major purchases. Sometimes a short consultation over the phone
will steer you in the right purchasing direction and can save
you money and all kinds of headaches later.
Systems Integrator:
After you’ve purchased your high-end equipment for
your post production suite, from your non-linear editing system
(NLE), to your decks, monitors, scopes, and cables, you’ll
need to put them together. I can assemble and tweak your new
system.
Troubleshooting NLE Systems:
Troubleshoot your NLE system to eliminate or reduce recurring
technical problems, be it SCSI or other termination problems,
component incompatibilities, or other types of system conflicts.
NLE systems put unique demands on a computer. If you aren’t
certain that you configured your system optimally or you believe
that the dealer didn’t quite get all configurations
correctly, then call me and I’ll work through your configuration
issues.
Calibration Of Equipment:
To make the most out of the expensive equipment you purchased,
you’ll want it all calibrated. Learn how to tweak your
broadcast monitor for accuracy and learn about underscan/overscan,
sizing and proper white/black balance. Learn about tuning
your computer monitor to display similar colors to your broadcast
monitor. Learn how to check for wiring and interference problems.
Minor calibrations may also be needed on your broadcast camera,
genlock encoders, TBCs, and VCRs. I’ll guide you if
you have the manual or if the circuit boards are properly
labeled.
Wiring Up Your Suite:
Wire up your suite in a functional and practical way so you
can spend your time being creative instead of tracking down
hookup problems. Whether you’re moving to a new location,
adding new equipment, or setting up a new editing system,
I’ll work with you on wiring up your suite.
NLE Training:
Learn how to use your non-linear editing system (NLE).
Software:
I often have with me a good compliment of free, shareware
& demo video production software that I can introduce
you to if you need a tool in one or another area to get you
started. I also carry many utilities, PDF manuals, driver
updates, or links of where to get them.
Streaming (New) Media:
I have extensive knowledge in converting your finished productions
into streaming media for internet viewing or for CD-ROM, DVD
& hard drive applications. I'm experienced in several
programs including Media Cleaner Pro. Streaming media (i.e.
RealMedia, QuickTime, AVI, WMV, ASF, MPEG1, MPEG2, or MPEG4)
is all about knowing which settings to use & where to
make compromises so your streaming media movies will work
properly in real-time on whatever target equipment your clients
have. I can help you come up to speed in this area & avoid
some of the landmines.
